Attention Whores...

***You Are An Attention Seeker***

You're only human, so you can't help but want a little attention every now and then.

You love the spotlight, but only when it's well deserved. You'd hate to be known for the wrong thing.

And you also don't mind sharing the spotlight. You can easily give someone else credit or a complement.

You know there's enough attention to go around, and it makes you happy when your friends shine.

You come across as: Friendly and interesting

People may wrongly think you're: A little more modest than you actually are!

A repost...Our Guardian Angel :)

ewan ko ba at bigla ko na lang xa naicip ulit.

actually, everytime na nakakakita ako ng number 4, always it serves as a warning or a good sign for me.  Napaka significant ng number four para sa akin, at lalo na sa tigers... Laging 4:44 ang crucial times nila sa mga games...basta laging may 4 sa time...nsa crucial situation cla, either may fouled out or chuva...

so much for the intro...

                   Tiger angel on the hardcourt

THE CALL of the dribble-and-dash discipline was so irresistible that not even the afterlife, it seems, prevented the late Growling Tiger John Lee Apil from seeing better days.

Given the strange yet rewarding circumstances that characterized UST’s fabled journey en route to the championship, Apil, a wily 6-foot-2 court general, in one way or another, became the savior extraordinaire for the underdogs.
Before that, on Black Saturday, Apil, who had been all set to help the Tigers rebound from a dismal Season 68 campaign, found himself yielding to a morbid trade-off, dying by electrocution, after saving 20-year-old Howell Alamo and 14-year-old Ivan de Asis, relatives of his girlfriend Pethereene Aggabao, from instant death last April 15, 2006 in a Tuguegarao City resort.

Sixth man in the skies
From a devastating 78-114 loss to then top-seed Ateneo de Manila University (Ateneo) in the first round, the Tigers took the Eagles in a nail-biter in their second meeting.
Down by two, 67-69, with only five ticks left on the clock, Japs Cuan missed his second freethrow in favor of Ateneo’s mammoth frontline.
But Allan Evangelista valiantly soared against Ford Arao and JC Intal to shoot the ball but fished a loose-ball foul off Intal instead.
Evangelista, seeking divine intervention, touched the number 4 inscription on the right side of his jersey in memory of Apil before stepping onto the foul line for a pair of pressure-packed freethrows.
When Evangelista threw the first ball, he knew it wouldn’t go in because his release was askew.  But it went in nevertheless, leaving Evangelista open-mouthed.  He said he regained his composure and threw a confident second shot that got in.
With Evangelista sinking both charities, the Tigers forged an overtime and later claimed a resounding 88-80 payback over the then unbeaten Eagles.
Among the Tigers, it was Jun Cortez who felt Apil’s presence most.
In Game 2 of their championship tussle with the Eagles, Cortez said he saw a black butterfly coming out of nowhere and hovered around Ateneo’s Arao, who then missed both freethrows. Moments later, UST romped past Ateneo, 87-71, to force a deciding Game 3 that eventually quenched the Tigers’ 10-year title drought.

Glory in court and character
Despite possessing the essentials of competitive basketball, Apil was a simple, humble, and ordinary man, according to those who had known him.
“In our place, he was idolized by the youth because he had accomplished so much in the field of sports yet he never boasted it,” Aggabao said. Apil was the first basketball player from Solana to play in the UAAP.
Dylan Ababou said that whenever there was a local league play in Cagayan, Apil would really try his best to travel back home, unmindful of the long trip, all for the love of playing hoops with his townmates.
Even UST coaches were impressed with Apil’s work ethic.  He was respectful toward his superiors, obedient, and hardworking to improve his skills, they said
“Mabait siyang player and he doesn’t complain,” added asst. coach Rabbi Tomacruz.  “He always wanted to learn the drills by himself after doing them once with the coaches.”
Apil was also well-liked because of his closeness to his family. He would always make sure to cover the 12-hour trip every week from Manila to Cagayan just to see his family.
“Kahit na siguro labag sa kalooban niya, gagawin pa rin niya ang gusto namin para mapaligaya kami,” Ines Apil said of her only child.
In a great show of love and concern for his family before he died, Apil even managed to bridge the gap between his mother and adopted younger brother JM.
“May kaunting tampuhan kami ni JM at bago siya mamatay, pero nagawa pa niyang umuwi dito para ayusin ang problema at pagbatiin kaming dalawa ng kapatid niya,”  said Apil.
For Dr. Sofia de Asis, who knew Apil since childhood, the tragic end of her would-have-been nephew-in-law would leave an indelible mark in her memory.
“He would have been an ideal husband for Pethereene and a future favorite in-law for me because of his good attitude,” de Asis said.
Most affected by Apil’s tragic farewell is his mother.
“Sa pagkawala ng anak ko ay nawala ang buong daigdig sa akin,” Mrs. Apil said.  “Hanggang ngayon ay nagluluksa pa rin kami at hanggang sa oras ng aming kamatayan ay ipagluluksa namin siya,”
The family is now seeking justice.
Aggabao told the Varsitarian that they immediately asked the resort’s security guard to turn off the main switch as Apil was in the middle of his ordeal, but the guard chose to confirm first if someone was really being electrocuted before turning the power source off.
Apil’s family has filed a criminal complaint against the security guard for homicide and a civil case for damages against Armando and Erlita Cortes, owners of the resort.
On that dramatic night of October 2, 2006, the Feast of the Guardian Angels, the Tigers’ fortunes flowed and overwhelmed at the height of Ateneo’s adamant stand. The Tigers then came up with the haymakers in the waning moments of their championship trilogy that Apil might have somehow dutifully guided toward the hoop. He is indeed a Tiger, after all.

So Alex1 and Sam went to the party, and Alex2(gerald) was also there with his friend( c ketchup..sori memory gap sa name niya dun sa movie).  Then may raffle for a celfone, then ang nanalo is ALEX REYES, nauna tumakbo sa stage c Alex1 tapos napunit un dress niya, tapos si Alex2 pumunta rin, and sa kanya napunta un prize.

I'll just cut the story short. Ininvite ni Alex2 si Alex1 sa biking competition sa kanila. At first ayaw ni alex1 pero naicp niya that she could use the money for her tuition. Tpos nagkadevelopan na c alex1 and alex2 dahil sa training nila.  Then malalaman ni Alex2 na ang mom niya Tessa Reyes (ChinChin Gutierrez) and ang dad ni Alex1 Jonathan Reyes ( Albert Martinez).  So iniwasan ni Alex2 c Alex1. Nagalit c Alex1 kay Alex2 pero nagsorry din c alex2 kay alex1 with the help of the other bikers. Tpos niresolve din ni Tessa and Jonathan un problem.

Aun, 2nd place cla.

Looking for love in all the wrong places? Let's make it
come to you by changing the color of one of your important spaces.

If you are a single woman who is truly looking for love, the long-term commitment kind,

Feng Shui says if you paint the room you sleep in any shade of pink or peach or even
salmon that it won't be long before you special someone is swimming upstream to make

some spawn with you. Really, I have loads of clients who swear that once they painted the room this shade, their personal Benjamin Moore came along and colored their whole world! Almost makes me blush!

Business Mirror (05/14/2008)

BAGUIO CITY—Hapee Toothpaste head coach Louie
Alas knows that if his wants his team to win the 2008 Philippine Basketball
League (PBL) Lipovitan Amino Sports title, he would need a healthy Jervy
Cruz.

And the signs are encouraging for the six-foot-four
power-forward to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered in Game One
of their semifinal series against Burger King in Tarlac City Friday.

“I think he can play if ever we reach the
finals,” said Alas, after his Complete Protectors clobbered Burger King
in Game Two, 69-55, Monday night here to take a commanding 2-0 lead in
their best-of-five series.

“He told me that he is now feeling okay at
unti-unti nang nawala ang sakit. Hopefully, because we really need him
if we would be able to reach the championship round,” he added.

Cruz had a freak accident
at halftime of their semifinals opener—which they handily won, 82-70—when
he chased the ball and slipped on the wet floor.

There are reports that
he will be out for at least seven weeks, but Alas said the cager out of
University of Santo Tomas could come back sooner than expected.

Hapee goes for the clincher against the Whoppers
Thursday at the Muntinlupa Sports Center. And for the rest of the semifinal
series, Alas would just have to rely on his perimeter guys in finishing
off their rivals.

“Napakalaki ng adjustment without Jervy on
the team. Nawalan kami ng inside presence that also plays tough defense,”
said Alas.

Alas, also the Letran mentor, hinted that
Cruz’s presence if they enter the finals for the second straight conference,
is badly needed, especially against the taller and physical Harbour Centre,
which, like them, holds a 2-0 lead in its own series against the luckless
San Mig Coffee.

Only Larry Rodriguez and Francis Mercado could
match up well against the dreaded big men of Batang Pier, which includes
Beau Belga, Chad Alonzo, Jerwin Gaco, Allan Gamboa and Edwin Asoro.

But Alas does not want the absence of Cruz
to become a distraction in their duel with Burger King because the job
is not yet done for them.

“We still need one more game,” he stressed.

Harbour Centre is in a
similar situation as Hapee, as promising forward Dylan Ababou fractured
his hand during practice and is expected to be out for seven weeks.

Batang Pier mentor Jorge Gallent has already
accepted the fact that the six-foot-three athletic forward also from the
Growling Tigers might not be around when the Mikee Romero-owned team chases
its fifth straight title in the league.

"Rookie Tigers involved in basketbrawl? from The Varsitarian (June 2006)

A NEAR free-for-all spoiled the elimination round face-off between the UST Tigers and the De La Salle University (La Salle) Green Archers in the 12th Fr. Martin’s Cup Nike Summer League last May 12.
The incident broke out when La Salle center Brian Ilad (Melo o!) threw a punch at Tiger forward Jhervy Cruz’ right cheek in a battle for the rebound with 1:42 left in the third quarter and the Archers on top, 49-29.  Both squads immediately rushed underneath the Tigers’ basket, running to the aid of their teammates, prompting the referees to stop the game for almost five minutes. All players from both teams who unofficially entered the court during the scuffle were ejected.
“A little commotion is part of the game, but the problem is that La Salle’s Ilad punched Jhervy (Cruz) who was merely boxing him out,” Tigers coach Pido Jarencio said of Ilad, who was slapped with his second suspension in the tournament after brawling with a Lyceum cager last May 2.
It was not the first time that the former RP Youth Burlington teammates met in a highly physical contest. During the UST-La Salle game in the Home and Away Invitational League last February, Cruz accidentally elbowed Ilad’s nose. The 6-foot-5 swingman suffered a dislocated nose bridge, and has to wear a protective mask since then.
Tigers Anthony Espiritu and Mel Gile were also ejected from the game after committing two unsportsmanlike fouls each in the final quarter. With only four players left in its lineup, the hapless Tigers succumbed to the Archers, 38-68.
La Salle coach Jack Santiago was displeased with the game’s outcome.
“I am frustrated at how we won the game because I never tolerated violence on and off the court,” Santiago said.
The 6-foot-4 Cruz, Espiritu, and Gile were suspended in the Tigers’ ensuing game against Ateneo de Naga University.

http://atenista.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7427&mode=threaded
Players No Longer Eligible: Ford Arao, Zion Laterre
Players Graduating But With At Least 1 Year of Eligibility: Chris Tiu, Yuri Escueta, Ken Barracoso, Jobe Nkemakolam

Even if Chris Tiu has a fifth year left, I highly doubt he will play next year. Ateneo even had to convince him to suit up this season. While many people might think I'm crazy, it is better for the team if he doesn't come back. That way, his minutes will be distributed to Jai, Eric and the other guards which would give them the chance to develop their skills. Aside from that, Ryan Buenafe, the NCAA Juniors MVP will be most likely coming in to replace him next year.

I think also that Ken and Jobe will be back next year. I think both of them want to prove themselves and next year will be their last chance. I can't say anything for Yuri though but I think we shouldn't consider him yet until he decides if he will play an additional year.

Remaining Players:
Rabah Al-Hussaini
Nonoy Baclao
Bacon Austria
Mike Baldos
Eman Monfort
Kirk Long
Jai Reyes
Eric Salamat
Chris Sumalinog

With this in mind, our most likely starting five would go like this:
C - Rabah
PF - Nonoy
SF - Kirk
SG - Eric
PG - Jai

Norman Black would always focus on a senior big man to step up each year. Last year, it was Doug Kramer. This year, it was Ford Arao. Next year, it would probably be Rabah and it looks like there's a lot of work to be done. However, after seeing Ford perform this year, I wouldn't be surprised if someone unexpected comes out big next year.

I also feel that Eric will become our leading scorer next year. Given that he averages 8.1 pts./game, he will be really big in the coming years. Nonoy should also work on acquiring more skills and maybe even bulk up a little. If only he could box out and screen better, he will be the ultimate defensive stopper of the league.

Possible Rookies for Next Year:
Ryan Buenafe from San Sebastian
Justin Chua from Chiang Kai Shek
Nico Salva from San Beda
Clark Bautista from Benedictine International College

For those who don't know, Ryan is NCAA Juniors MVP, averaging a triple-double every game. That by itself means a lot. MVP has already been luring the kid to suit up with us next year and he has already been spotted watching live games in Araneta on our side. Another interesting news update a while ago was that he has hinted during the send-off mass that he will play next year. Justin Chua is the reigning MVP of the Tionglian League, the basketball tournament of Chinese high schools. He plays center and is said to be a lighter version of Jervy Cruz.

Predictions for Next Year:
1. DLSU
2. UE
3. ADMU
4. FEU
5. UP
6. UST
7. NU
8. Adamson

UP - With the politics surrounding their basketball program, it is very difficult to put an accurate prediction as of yet. However, they currently have all the ingredients for a championship run in the following years except for a good coach. With them more or less acquiring Vince Burke, Kirk Long's teammate from Faith Academy, they now have potential to turn around the 0-14 season into something potentially big. That is of course if the politics doesn't stop them first.

DLSU - With TY Tang and Cholo Villanueva graduating, DLSU will be left without an effective point guard. While JV Casio can double as one, he is much better not having to handle the ball too much.
Their only choice is Simon Atkins and he just sucks as of now. (THAT IS SO RUDE!) While their backcourt will suffer, they will still have their big men. Rico Maierhofer will play next year and so will Marko Batricevic, their famed Serbian center. On top of that, you have Joshua Webb coming in from DLSZ in which he led them to another championship in the Juniors. That won't be enough though and they will need more fresh talent or else, they might not make the Final Four by 2009.

FEU - People should start keeping an eye on these guys. Another rookie-laden team like UP but they were able to give the defending champs a run for their money. With the leading runner for ROY, JR Cawaling, expect these guys to explode in the coming years.

UE - Much of their veterans will be graduating this year. The only ones remaining I believe are Barry Llagas, James Martinez, Jorel Canizares and Hans Thiele. They still have a good chance for a Final Four appearance but not an sweep eliminations this time. <Jorel graduated this year. stups...

UST - No more veteran bench players. Jervy Cruz and Khasim Mirza are going to have to carry the whole load this time. We can expect them to field in their Team B players and also graduating players from the Juniors. However, I don't think we will be seeing them in the Final Four.

NU - They screwed up big time this year and with no more Joseph Lingaolingao and Edwin Asoro, so too are there prospects in the coming years.

Adamson - No one is currently capable of carrying their team right now and I believe they will be the cellar dwellers next year alongside NU.

The Deepest Cut

There was a sickening knot developing in his stomach. Jeff de Guzman had a feeling he was going to get cut from the final lineup of the varsity team. Not that he was playing bad. Unlike pro basketball where lineups are more or less determined by skill, contracts, or even trades, in college basketball… there are many deciding factors to consider.

In the summer of 2003, Jeff de Guzman followed his teammates from San Beda high school to try and gain a slot with the Ateneo Blue Eagles who just won the coveted Men’s Basketball championship the year before. His Red Cubs team was no slouch themselves having won the NCAA juniors title against Letran.  And now his teammates, juniors MVP Claiford Arao, guards Yuri Escueta and Arvin Braganza, and forwards Mike Baldos and Jay Agbayani presented themselves to then-Ateneo coach Joel Banal. It was the last large defection of players from the Benedictine school’s famed juniors hoops program to another school. In the succeeding years, they would be able to keep players like Ogie Menor and Jay-R Taganas in red and white.

The only player promised a slot on the team was Arao. Agbayani moved on to UP while the rest of the team went to Ateneo and its Team B basketball team. Jeff, on the other hand, was not recruited. He passed the Ateneo entrance exam, tried out for the team, and landed a slot on coach Gabby Severino’s Team B.

A bright and sensitive kid, Jeff de Guzman was a late bloomer in basketball, having taken up the sport only in his second year in high school. Oblivious to the world of big time basketball, he was surprised to find out that San Beda had a rich basketball tradition. He took to the sport like a fish in water yet was always cut from the NCAA jayvee team. He would play well on the Passerelle level but never gained a favorable nod from the school’s famed high-school coach Ato Badolato.

By his fourth year, after a clamor over his being passed over in the previous years, Jeff finally made the NCAA team. But instead of getting an opportunity to show his wares, he burned a hole in his pants from sitting on the bench all season long never getting off even for one minute.

Watching his teammates celebrate the juniors title, Jeff felt somewhat out of it. After all, he never contributed to his team’s cause except to clap and cheer them on. But when Ford Arao and the others moved westward to the Ateneo campus, Jeff de Guzman followed (his older brother also went to Loyola Heights) hoping he’d get a chance to try out for the team. But the Blue Eagles were stacked deep in the guard position, what with LA Tenorio, Magnum Membrere, Larry Fonacier, and rookie Chris Tiu eating up the minutes. So it was off to Team B.

Team B. Home of the varsity team’s discards and recruits serving out their residency. To get to the games, they take the LRT lugging their gym bags crammed with shoes, socks, towels and textbooks. They play in gyms that make the antiquated Blue Eagle Gym look like a state-of-the-art arena. Too often before games, the players change into their uniforms in locker rooms that double as maintenance rooms where the comfort rooms reek of piss and uncleaned tiles. They’re given no Gatorade energy drinks and instead they have to bring their own Colemans that are regular fixtures underneath their bench. They play in a soupcon of leagues that barely make the news wires and its where the head coach is the one who lugs a net full of basketballs to the game.

After toiling year in and out hoping to earn a slot to Team A and their shot at UAAP glory, Jeff began to despair of making the team. With a year of eligibility left, he dedicated himself to getting into the best possible shape and training daily so that when the tryouts for the seniors team was called, he’d be ready. And Jeff played well even unto the just-concluded preseason where he was eventually short-listed for the last slot on the Blue Eagles’ 15-man roster.

Just this past summer, when he wasn’t named to the team that was going to train at the Joe Abunassar Impact Basketball Camp in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Jeff had that sickening feeling that he’d be cut once more. The assistant coaches steeled him for the eventuality that he didn’t make it once more and to keep his chin up and continue training. You’ll never know, they said. A few days prior to the official announcement of the lineup, Jeff found out that the coaching staff would instead give the slot to his former high-school teammate Mike Baldos.

The weights room for the Ateneo athletes is just across the luxurious Maplewood court of the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center at the far end of the sprawling campus. On this Thursday night, the Blue Eagles were engaged in a physical practice game with the visiting University of Guam. Jeff de Guzman is inside doing weights facing the opposite direction. He can’t bring himself to watch the match going on not even 20 feet away.
He’s grateful for the sweat pouring down his face for it helps mask the tears in his eyes.

He goes up to the strength and conditioning coach to inform him he’s done for the day. They don’t keep him any longer than need be
for they know the pain he’s going through.

He doesn’t notice he’s driving around the campus lost in thought. There have been many nights like this twisting and turning wondering about the what ifs and what nots. But he’ll go on. He’ll finish his studies and try out for a PBL team. And if he’s worried about getting cut once more… the worst of it has happened already. All Jeff de Guzman just wanted was to play for the Blue Eagles. <~aw jeff... :(

Jens Dieter Baylon Knuttel

A repost. Got this from my friend.

For those na nagsasabi na mayabang si jens. My gosh. MAHIYA naman kayo. Kilalanin niyo nga muna un taong binabangga ninyo.

By Giovanni Paolo J. Yazon

ADD another “hoop hottie” in the ever-growing list of University Athletic Association of the Philippines cagers with foreign lineage. And his name is Jens Dieter Baylon Knuttel, a “50 percent German” who wears jersey no. 14 in the Far Eastern University’s Tamaraws team!

Jens Knuttel (pronounced as Yens Nyutel) is a standout beyond doubt, what with his hazel eyes that sparkle when he speaks, rosy white and flawless skin, and boyish looks reminiscent of Thomas Ian Nicholas of the American Pie movie series. At 18, this 5-feet and 10-inch point guard is also the youngest “Tam” in FEU’s lineup!

Manila Standard Today: Tell me something about your family.

Jens Knuttel: My father, Dieter Knuttel, is a German while my mom, the former Visminda Bayon, hails from Zamboanga City. I have six more siblings: Ubelyn (27), Marc (22), Sven (20), Ninia (11), Bianca (10) and Selena (3). I was born in Heidelberg, but our family migrated here in the Philippines when I was two years old.

Since when have you been passionate with basketball?

I began playing basketball when I was in grade four [I was 10 years old then]. I was part of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s varsity team [from elementary to third year high school]. I used to be a swimmer, but it was my childhood friends who prodded me to give basketball a try since they’re all into it. Some of the tournaments I joined in are the Small Basketeers of the Philippines-Paserelle and the Palarong Pambansa.

Is your being a Tamaraw a choice or destiny?

Many exceptional PBA players came from FEU [like Johnny Abarrientos, Arwind Santos and Glen Capacio, who’s our coach], and so I grew up with the belief that FEU is a “basketball powerhouse”… na lahat ng magagaling ay dito lang nanggagaling.

My coaches at Ateneo, Jinky Pardo and Pete Alfaro, helped me na makapag-try out sa Baby Tamaraws [juniors team of FEUl] on my third year. Going to Manila [to study and be able to play basketball] was the toughest decision I made as I had to repeat my junior year to qualify for [residency requirement] the UAAP juniors division. But it was worth it, I was able to play [under the guidance of coach Potit de Vera). This paved the way for me to be included in the Tamaraws team when I stepped into college. My being a Tamaraw’s more of a dream that really came true (he smiles).

What were the challenges you hurdled when you stayed here in Manila?

I missed my family in Zamboanga so much, I don’t have any relative here in Manila; balancing basketball and studies—it wasn’t like in high school where classes go before practice/games; and learning how to speak Tagalog fluently. I only used to speak German and Chavacano. There were times when my classmates would laugh at how I pronounced some words, like ki-ni-ki-lig (he smiled).

Your strength on court?

I’m not a scorer, but I’m a “playmaker,” I’m there to lead my other teammates.

Who are your buddies among your teammates?

JR Cawaling—he treats me like his younger brother. [He’s from Cagayan de Oro City and nagbi-Bisayaan din kami sometimes.] I’m also close to Marnel Baracael and Benedict Fernandez. Ang dami nilang tawag sa akin: bunso, puti, tisoy, Kano (he giggles).

Any common notion about players that you want to be changed?

That we’re mayabang, suplado or bolero… others do it kasi, but I don’t. It hurts when people judge you, so I just do the opposite. I am very accommodating [to all our fans], friendly and understanding. In fact, I don’t know how to get angry (he smiles).

Who are your role models?

Olsen Racela (San Miguel), Jonas Villanueva (Magnolia) and NBA player Jason Kidd

Your guiding principle in life is…

“Die hard trying.” Dapat magsipag ka, always strive hard to improve on your craft.

“Taken” or still available?

I’m not into a relationship right now… heartaches [will just] make me cry.

And your message to fellow students?

Balancing extra-curricular activities with academics is a challenge that we face every day, [but] it’s just a matter of knowing what to prioritize [without doing a major sacrifice]. Always scan your notes before you sleep at night, so that when you wake up the next day, you don’t have to review your lessons that hard—you just have to refresh your mind.
